Cord Cutting: Reclaiming Your Energy
Every interaction we have—whether with people, places, memories, or emotions—creates an energetic connection. In energy healing traditions, these connections are often called energetic cords. Some cords are supportive and healthy, while others can drain your energy or keep you tied to past situations. Cord cutting is a simple but powerful way to release these attachments and restore balance to your energy.
Cord cutting is not about rejecting people or pushing relationships away. Instead, it’s about releasing unhealthy energetic attachments so your energy can return to you and flow more freely.
What Are Energetic Cords?
Energetic cords are invisible connections formed through relationships, thoughts, and emotional experiences. These cords can connect us to family members, partners, coworkers, friends, and even people we briefly interact with.
When cords carry heavy emotions—such as stress, resentment, grief, or lingering attachment—they can leave you feeling drained, stuck in past conversations, or emotionally affected by others. Clearing these cords helps release that energetic weight and allows you to return to your natural state of balance.
Why Cord Cutting Is Important
Your energy is one of your most valuable resources. When cords remain attached to difficult situations or relationships, they can continue to pull on your emotional and energetic reserves.
Regularly cutting cords can help you:
Reclaim your personal energy
Release emotional residue from interactions
Strengthen energetic boundaries
Feel lighter, calmer, and more present
Just as we shower to cleanse our physical bodies, our energetic field also benefits from regular clearing.
A Simple Cord Cutting Practice
Cord cutting doesn’t have to be complicated. A simple and intentional movement can be very effective.
Step 1: Take a deep breath.
Step 2: Lift your hand above your head with your palm facing toward your body.
Step 3: While exhaling, smoothly and intentionally swipe your hand downward along the front of your body, from crown to root, with your palm facing inward.
As your hand moves down your body, imagine any energetic cords releasing and falling away. Allow your exhale to carry away any heaviness or attachments.
When and Where to Do It
This technique can be done anytime you feel energetically affected by an interaction or situation. It can be especially helpful:
After difficult conversations
After intense events or interactions
After spending time in crowded or stressful environments
When you notice yourself thinking about someone repeatedly
At the end of your workday
Because the movement is simple and subtle, you can do it almost anywhere—at home, at work, in your car, or before going to bed.
Make It a Regular Practice
Energetic cords are created throughout the day as we interact with the world around us. Because of this, cord cutting works best when practiced regularly. Doing it often helps prevent emotional buildup and keeps your energy field clear and balanced.
Think of cord cutting as energetic hygiene—a quick practice that helps you release what no longer belongs to you and return to your own energy.
With just a breath and a simple movement, you can reset your energy and move forward feeling lighter and more centered.
