Learning Reiki

Why learn Reiki?

Reiki offers a holistic approach to healing by balancing energy, reducing stress, and promoting relaxation. It can enhance your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being while empowering you to support the healing of others.

How to learn Reiki

Reiki is typically taught by a certified Reiki Master like Charlotte.  Each certification level of Reiki is taught in a day or two, and the process involves instruction, hands-on practice, and attunements, which align your energy with Reiki.

Can anyone learn Reiki?

Yes, Reiki is accessible to everyone. You do not need special skills or prior experience to learn it. All that’s required is an open mind and a willingness to learn.

Can Reiki be incorporated in everyday life?

Yes, Reiki can be used for stress relief, improving relationships, setting intentions, and even charging objects with positive energy.

How do I become a certified Reiki practitioner?

Reiki certification requires completing training with a Reiki Master starting with the Reiki 1 certification and then continuing your knowledge with Reiki 2, Reiki 3/ART and Reiki Master training, with attunements and practice sessions.  

Upon completing each level of Reiki, you will receive a certificate of completion acknowledging your training and attunement.

Reiki certification classes can be completed in one day each normally taken one per month (or one month apart). Becoming a Reiki Master may take months, depending on your pace and practice. The Reiki Master class is also one day, but maybe held as a two day weekend with Reiki 3/ART on the Saturday, and Reiki Master on the Sunday.

How long does each class take?

An Usui Reiki class takes 1 day to complete, with time in-between for practice and integration of your training for the next class.

What do I need to bring to Reiki class?

For each Reiki class, bring a pen for taking notes as you will receive a detailed Reiki manual for each level, a bottle of water to stay hydrated, snacks, and comfortable clothing to help you relax. You are welcome to bring additional items, such as a blanket or cushion, and reach out to Charlotte with any additional questions.

Can you learn Reiki online?

While you can learn Reiki online, Charlotte believes that being in a learning environment with your fellow students and having the ability to practice and experience Reiki energy with each other is invaluable.  In-person lessons provide a wealth of information and experience for every student.

What are the levels of Reiki?

Charlotte teaches four levels of Reiki, which includes the three traditional levels and the Reiki 3/ART Certification that is offered by William Rand.

  • Reiki 1: Focuses on self-healing and basic techniques for a Reiki session.

  • Reiki 2: Introduces more symbols, distance healing, and different techniques to use Reiki.

  • Reiki 3/ART: Increases your knowledge with more symbols and techniques to use your Reiki energy for healing and other uses.

  • Reiki Master: You are attuned to the highest Usui Reiki energy and receive advanced training to teach and attune others to Reiki.  

What is a Reiki lineage?

Reiki lineage is the family tree of Charlotte's Usui Reiki Master Teachers to Dr. Usui.  Charlotte has studied with and been attuned by three Usui Reiki Master Teachers and her Usui Reiki lineage can be viewed here.

Being a Reiki Practitioner

What does a Reiki Practitioner feel?

During a session, practitioners may feel warmth, tingling, or pulsing sensations in their hands as they channel Reiki energy.

What can a Reiki Master feel?

Reiki Masters often experience a stronger flow of energy and deeper spiritual connections during sessions. They may also perceive intuitive insights.

Can you see Reiki Energy?

Reiki energy is usually felt rather than seen, but some individuals may perceive it as light, colors, or a glowing sensation during sessions.

How to activate Reiki energy?

Attunements during training will activate the Reiki symbols and the ability to channel Reiki energy.

Can you do Reiki on Yourself?

In Reiki 1, you will learn how to use your Reiki healing energy on yourself.  Regular daily practice will enhance self healing.  In Reiki 2 and Reiki 3/ART, you will learn more symbols and techniques to use your Reiki energy.

Can I use Reiki to treat others?

Yes, after completing Reiki 1, you can give Reiki treatments to others. You will learn the necessary techniques and hand positions to provide effective treatments. However, remember that at this level, the primary focus is on self-healing and practicing with close friends and family.

What are the five principles of Reiki?

What is a Reiki symbol?

Reiki symbols are tools that enhance the flow of energy and focus on specific healing intentions.  They are activated by your Reiki master during your attunement at each level of Reiki.

What is a Reiki Attunement?

A Reiki attunement is a process where a Reiki Master opens your energy channels to connect with universal energy and Reiki symbols appropriate to each level.

How do you prepare for a Reiki Attunement?

Wear comfortable, loose clothing to allow for relaxation and energy flow.  Ensure that you are hydrated, eat light and set an intention to receive the attunement fully.  

How long does an Attunement take?

A Reiki attunement is part of a Reiki class and can vary according to how many students are being attuned.  The attunement process for a single person can take about 20 minutes and for a group can take up to an hour.

Can you lose a Reiki Attunement?

No, Reiki attunements are permanent. However, regular practice helps maintain and strengthen your connection to the energy.

Can you do Reiki without an attunement?

Reiki requires an attunement to access the universal energy effectively.

What is a Reiki Spirit Guide?

A Reiki Spirit Guide is a spiritual helper who supports your healing and guidance during sessions.

What is a Reiki Cleanse?

A Reiki cleanse is a detoxification process that occurs after and sometimes before attunements, clearing physical, emotional, and energetic blocks.

Reiki Religion and Spirituality

Does Reiki conflict with Christianity?

Reiki is spiritual but not religious. It does not conflict with Christianity and can complement any belief system.

Do I have to be religious to learn Reiki?

No, Reiki is not a religion or affiliated with any religion. It’s a practice of channeling universal energy for healing that aligns with any faith or spiritual path.

Can Reiki help me with my personal growth and Spirituality?

What is Reiki Level 1?

What should I do to prepare for Reiki Level 1?

To prepare for your Usui Reiki 1 course, try to come with an open mind and a positive attitude. You might want to practice mindfulness or meditation, and ensure you are well-rested and hydrated. No special preparation is necessary beyond your willingness to learn and participate.

Will I receive an Attunement in Reiki 1?

Yes, one of the key components of every level of Reiki is the attunement process. The attunement is a ceremonial process conducted by the Reiki Master that opens and aligns your energy channels, allowing you to channel Reiki energy.

After your attunement, you may experience heightened awareness, emotional releases, or physical sensations as your energy adjusts. You may also feel more relaxed, centered, and connected to their intuition.

How does Reiki Level 1 differ from Reiki Level 2?
